Dewey Hanna Obituary

FLORENCE - Dewey Wayne Hanna, 76, died Friday, October 12, 2018, at McLeod Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Florence County, SC, a son of the late Murdock and Ida Genelle Gaskins Hanna.

In 1965, he graduated from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC. He then trained as a medic at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. He began his career in 1968 as an Allstate agent in Florence. He had numerous top line achievements with his company over his 36-year career.

Mr. Hanna always loved being at the beach and upon retirement, enjoyed traveling the world. He was a long-time member of the Florence Country Club where he played golf and built lasting friendships, including those with junior golfers.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Pittman Hanna of the home; a daughter, Marla (Sonny) Slaughter, of Florence, SC; a son, Mark (Anne) Hanna, of Florence, SC; a step-daughter, Missy (Kim) Biggs, of Columbia, SC; a step-son, Stewart (Julie) McKelvey, of Camden, SC, and a brother, David Hanna, of Summerton, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mason and Milly Slaughter; Heyward and Elizabeth Anne Hanna; Fletcher and Maggie Biggs; and William McKelvey.

Mr. Hanna is pre-deceased by his three brothers, Ron Hanna, Muriel Hanna, and Ivan Hanna.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 15, 2018 at Central United Methodist Church in Florence, SC. Visitation will immediately follow in the church commons area. A private burial will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery. Services are directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Florence Country Club Junior Golf Program, care of Paul Woodbury, 450 Country Club Blvd., Florence, SC 29501.
