FLORENCE – Shelley Thornton Durden, 80, died Saturday morning, October 20, 2018, after an illness.
She was born in Jacksonville, Florida, a daughter of the late William and Adeline Davis Thornton. She married William Marion Durden on September 7, 1957, and was blessed with 61 years of marriage. She resided in New York for 10 years, where she was a member and Elder of the Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco. While living in Gainesville, Florida, she was a board member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and was involved with Stephen Ministries. She and her husband, with whom she worked in the advertising business, had resided in Florence for a number of years.
She loved cats, her grandchildren, needlepoint and knitting. Her “Grammy Blankets” are prized possessions of everyone in the family, including the cats.
In addition to her husband, William Marion Durden, of Florence, she is survived by a son, Chris Durden (Tamra) and two granddaughters, Sean Elim-Durden and Autumn Elim-Durden, all of Williamsburg, VA; and a brother, Curt Crews (Linda) of Florida.
