Anthony Elton Fowler

          Anthony Elton Fowler, 70, of Florence, SC, went to be with His Lord and Maker on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.   

          Tony went by many names - son, husband, dad, Papa, uncle, friend, teacher, fisherman and hunter - and was always armed with a grin you could spot across any room with his white beard.   If he saw you and he knew you, he was going to stop and have a conversation and check in on you and yours.  He was an encouragement to everyone he taught and led at Florence Darlington Tech over the years. 

          Tony graduated from Southeastern Community College, received his Bachelors at Western Carolina University, and his Masters at Francis Marion University. In his early career, he worked at McLeod Health in counseling and social work. During his thirty-year tenure at Florence Darlington Technical College, Tony received the Faculty of the Year Award numerous times and the South Carolina Association of Technical Colleges Faculty of the Year Award once, before his retirement in 2020. He was a current board member of the Pee Dee Board of Special Needs and Disabilities.

          Tony was a loyal member of Ebenezer Baptist Church for 38 years where he served Jesus faithfully in many different roles - Deacon, dishwasher, usher, referee, coach, Sunday school teacher, and committee member.

          Funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Ebenezer Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., Saturday, at the church.

          He is survived by his wife Latrell; two sons, Jeremy of Florence and Joel (Allison) of Clemson; and seven grandchildren, Erich, Miah Grace, Jackson, Luke, John Paul, Gavin and Nolan.    He is the son of Gloria and Elton Fowler, both deceased.
