FLORENCE Barbara Walters Hurst, 79, died Monday, August 3, 2015, in a local hospital after an illness.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 6, 2015, at Liberty Methodist Chapel with burial following in the church cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at the church.
She was born in the Suttons Community of Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Harry D. and Myrtle Flowers Walters. She was retired from LaZBoy Manufacturing Company.
Mrs. Hurst was a member of both Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church and Eastside Free Will Baptist Church in Florence. Her passion was cooking and baking. She loved cooking for her family and community, and enjoyed her involvement in Cooks for Christ. She also loved to fish and grow flowers.
She was predeceased by her husband, Pete Hurst; and three brothers, T. D. Walters, Ray Walters, and Douglas Manning Walters.
She is survived by her three sons, John Walters (Chris) Hurst and Daniel Pete (Brenda) Hurst, both of Florence, and Bobby Allison (Julianne) Hurst of Columbia; a sister, Harriett Walters Powell , and a brother, Harry Boodie (Nadine) Walters, both of Andrews; and four grandchildren, John Westley Hurst and Laura Frances Hurst, both of Florence, and Emma Howard and Allyson Simons, both of Columbia.
