Barbara Jeanne Penny

FLORENCE Barbara Jeanne Greer Penny passed away into the arms of her heavenly Father on Saturday, August 23, 2014. She was the beloved wife of 53 years to Robert Bob Penny. She leaves behind her daughters, Lisa Penny, Angela Penny Vaccaro (TJay), and Connie Waters (Joe, III). She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Jara, Jonah, Jacob and Joseph Buchholz, and Kelsey, Adrienne and Trevor Waters; her mother, Eva Nell Greer of Florence; a brother, Jack Greer of Lexington Park, MD; two sisters, Patty Street of Johnson City, TN, and Gayle Driggers (Ralph) of Pawleys Island, SC, all of whom she dearly loved, as well as all of her nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Penny was born in Banner Elk, NC, a daughter of Eva Nell Greer and the late Ernest Hodge Greer. She loved her mountain homeland in Western NC and Eastern TN. Along with her husband, she established The Hair Place in 1973 and became a very good barber, enjoying all those she met and cared for at their barber shop. After raising her daughters, Mrs. Penny continued her education graduating cum laude at Francis Marion University in 1990.

She was a beautiful southern belle with grace and charm, and loved wholeheartedly. She became interested in muscadine grapes and devoted time and effort into building a vineyard at their home. She loved her family, near and far, and wished for them all the best in life.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
