Bernard Emerson Moore

          Bernard Emerson Moore passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2026. Born on April 27, 1925, in Florence, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Ralph Hill Moore and Vera Boylston Moore.

          In 1951, Bernard married Dorothy Tolson of Florence, and together they shared a loving and devoted marriage for 71 years. He graduated from Florence High School in 1942 and remained a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church for 89 years, where he served on numerous committees.

          A proud World War II veteran, Bernard served his country with honor before attending the Capital Radio Institute of America in Washington, D.C. Upon returning to Florence, he worked at several local radio stations until 1954, when he played a pivotal role in bringing WBTW Television to the airwaves. He served as the station's Chief Engineer for 37 years, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout his career.

          Bernard's interests and service extended far beyond his profession. He was a charter member of the Florence Symphony Orchestra and enjoyed playing the stand-up bass well into his 80s. He was also deeply committed to Scouting, serving as a troop leader and board member for many years. His dedication to service was recognized through numerous honors, including the rank of Eagle Scout and the Bernie Moore Legacy of Service Award.

          Following retirement, Bernie and Dot moved to Garden City, where they enjoyed many happy years together. In recognition of his 45 years of dedicated service as HOA President, the Inlet Pointe pier was named in honor of Bernie Moore.

          In addition to his parents, Bernard was preceded in death by his siblings, Doug Moore, Dorothy Gilbert, Ralph Moore, Jr., and Jeanne Stephens, and his son-in-law, Jim Ruben.

          He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Bernard Emerson Moore, Jr. ("Buz") (Marilynn) Mary Alice Ruben, and Wade Brantley Moore (Tammy) He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jason Moore ( Stacy), Christopher Moore (Rachelle), Stratton Moore (Meredith), Emerson Moore (William), Brant Moore, and Melaina Moore Hunt (Prior), and by his beloved great-grandchildren, Rowan, Saylor, and Beckett. He also leaves many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

          The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 265 West Cheves Street, Florence, South Carolina. The family will receive friends following the service.

          In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church or to a charity of one's choice.

          The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Bernard's devoted caregivers and hospice team for their compassionate care, kindness, and support.
