FLORENCE – Betty Jho Cook Smith, 86, died Saturday, May 17, 2025, after a brief illness.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Central United Methodist Church, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
She was born in Florence, SC, a daughter of the late Myrtis Teal Cook and Dan Rushton Cook. She graduated from McClenaghan High School. Betty Jho worked in account management with CP&L (later Duke Energy) in Cary, North Carolina, and in Florence. After retiring from CP&L, she went to work with Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Surfside Beach, SC, before returning to Florence.
She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and the Sara Blanton Sunday School Class. She was also a former member of the Finance Committee.
She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Joel Curtis Smith; and a son, Walter Stanley Smith.
Surviving are two sons, Stuart Douglas Smith of Manning, SC, and Joel C. Smith, Jr. (Martie) of Cary, NC.
