Blaine Howard Smith

         Blaine H. Smith, 70, of Effingham, South Carolina, passed away on April 18, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, which he faced with remarkable grace, dignity, and a steadfast spirit, never once complaining.

         Born on September 11, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio, Blaine was a graduate of Whitmer Senior High School, where he earned a vocational drafting certification in 1973.  He went on to build a successful 52-year career as a drafter, retiring in September 2025 from Otis Elevator.

         Blaine lived a full and vibrant life beyond his career.  He was a dedicated official with the Carolina Sprint Tour and found great joy at the racetrack—whether pushing off cars, taking photos, or lending a helping hand at any turn.  A passionate traveler, Blaine loved cruising and, alongside his loving wife, embarked on more than 50 cruises over the years.  He was also an avid hockey fan, enthusiastically supporting teams such as the Detroit Red Wings, Pee Dee Pride, and the Pee Dee Ice Cats.  At home, he enjoyed working with his 3D printer, designing and building projects, and making lasting memories on family trips with his children and grandchildren.

         Blaine is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Vicki Evans Smith; his son, Derek Smith, and his partner, Katie Haskins, of Farmington, Minnesota; his son, Jayme Smith, and his wife, Angela, of Florence, South Carolina; his eight cherished grandchildren; and his sisters, Cheryl Sattler and Patricia Gospodarek, both of Toledo, Ohio.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Ruth R. Smith, and his brother, Craig Truhan.

         A memorial service will be held at Waters-Powell Funeral Home in Florence, South Carolina, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service.
