Carole "Lil Bit" Davis Baker, 65, of Florence, SC, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
Carole grew up in the Lee County community of Cedar Creek. She was the youngest of five children born to Loucis and Lillie Mae Davis. Carole developed a strong work ethic and loved the outdoors. Her dream as a child was to become a nurse.
Carole graduated from Robert E. Lee Academy in 1977, completed the surgical tech program at Florence-Darlington Tech and a few years later the registered nursing program. Carole began her nursing career at McLeod Regional Medical Center and worked in the Operating Department exclusively, first as a surgical tech assistant and then as an OR charge nurse.
Carole was injured in a work-related accident in 2000, which forced her into early retirement. She lived with chronic back pain for the next 25 years. Her personal strength, endurance, and faith made her an example for others. She never stopped being a nurse – always caring, listening, loving, and encouraging others to make them "feel better" with love and compassion towards them.
Carole possessed a disarming innocence that allowed strangers to share their cares and trust her. This combination allowed Carole to share her faith in Christ. To meet Carole was to like her, to know Carole was to love her.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband James "Jim" Baker, adopted mother JoAnn “Ladybug” McLaurin, son Matthew Baker (Anna), beloved canine companions Rizzo and Biscuit, mother Lillie Mae Davis; brothers Loucis Edward Davis, Jr. and Zeb Vance Davis (Debbie); sisters Kathy Davis Stines (David) and Karen Davis Stevenson (Larry); niece Johanna Jones (Steven); nephews Ryan Davis (Amanda), Craig Davis, Robert “B.J.” Dennis (Brittany), and Clint Stevenson (Caroline).
Church at Sandhurst will host a memorial service on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the narthex of the church.
