Carolyn McClam Harrell, 64, of Florence, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025, after a brave and determined fight against cancer.
Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Carolyn was the cherished daughter of the late Charles and Frenchie McClam. A proud graduate of South Florence High School (1978) and the University of South Carolina (1982), Carolyn's kind spirit and vibrant energy touched all who knew her. She was a devoted wife to David Stanley Harrell and a loving mother to Maegan Harrell Beale (Sam) and Mason Stanley Harrell. Carolyn was also a beloved sister to Harriet Lee McClam and a doting grandmother, or "Gigi," to her grandson, Theodore Beale.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Frenchie McClam, and her sister, Kathleen M. Starks.
Carolyn and David had the unique privilege of living across the country, forging deep, lifelong friendships wherever they went. Carolyn’s warmth, wit, and laughter left a lasting mark on everyone she encountered. She had a passion for books, enjoyed the simple pleasures of a cold beer, relished afternoon naps, and found joy in her favorite music filling the air.
Her family invites you to join them in celebrating her life on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Carolyn’s memory to the Hope Lodge in Charleston, SC, or to the Florence County Animal Shelter. Carolyn and Harriet spent time at the Hope Lodge during Carolyn's treatments, where they received invaluable support and care. The family is grateful for the comfort and kindness they found there, and your donations will help continue that legacy of support for others. Additionally, Carolyn’s love for animals and her support of local shelters can be honored through contributions to the Florence County Animal Shelter.
