Charles Morgan Jordan, 75, passed away on Dec. 28, 2025, after a short illness.
Born on December 3, 1950, he was the son of the late James Charles Jordan and the late Elsie Geraldine Clarke.
Charles, affectionately known as “Chuck,” grew up on South Wallace Road in Florence where he enjoyed exploring the woods and fishing in creeks nearby. He attended Florence District One schools and completed his education at Poynor Middle School.
As a young man, Charles worked in the kitchen at Florence General Hospital. His final place of employment was with the Save Way Gas Station on South Irby Street.
Charles loved singing, especially songs by his favorite musician Elvis Presley, as well as traditional church hymns.
Throughout his life, he attended several churches near his home, including Mizpah Baptist Church. At age 70, he began worshipping at First Baptist Church.
One of Charles favorite sayings when he didn’t want to do something was “I’m just a hardheaded Baptist.”
For the last 20 months, Charles resided at the Palmetto Place on Clarendon Ave. operated by the Florence County Disabilities and Special Needs Board. During weekdays, he attended the MB Wallace Center on National Cemetery Road.
Prior to living at Palmetto Place, he resided at the Pelican House on West Conyers Ave.
Charles is survived by two sisters, Mary Clyde Stone and Harriet Young, and their families. He is also survived by two special friends, Brenda Harrison and Karo Sellers.
The Palmetto Place staff and house manager, Pat Adams, along with staff at the MB Wallace Center, are deeply appreciated for their love, compassion and excellent care of “Mr. Charles.”
A private gathering to remember Charles is planned for Jan. 8.
