Cyril Segars

FLORENCE Cyril Segars, 86, died Friday, March 18, 2016, in a local hospital after an illness.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 21, 2016, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

He was born in Hartsville, SC, a son of the late Cyril E. and Grace Skipper Segars. After graduating from Hartsville High School, he served his country in the United States Navy. He retired from Stone Container after 35 years of service.

Mr. Segars was a member of First Baptist Church in Florence, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and member of the Fifty-Year Club. He was also a member of the Amity Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Barbara Turner Segars, of the home; a son, Kirk G. (Linda) Segars of Florence; a sister, Florida Rushing, of Litchfield, SC; four grandchildren, Kirk J. Segars and Lindsey A. Segars, both of Columbia, Hope S. (Stephen) Mahaffey of Summerville, and Kent D. (Wendy) Segars, II, of Murrells Inlet, SC; a great-grandson, Ethan Mahaffey; and five nieces and three nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Kent Dwight Segars.
