David Alderman, III Obituary

David Wells Alderman, III, 72, died Monday, March 23, 2026, surrounded by his family.

David was born in Florence, a son of the late David Wells Alderman, Jr., and Cynthia M. Alderman.  He made his mark in business in the banking industry.  He began his career at Guaranty Bank over forty years ago. He spent the majority of his career at BB&T mentored by his friend and colleague, Ashpy Lowrimore.  David believed in “old-fashioned banking” where a customer’s word and a handshake were as binding as a contract. He retired in 2018 as Market Leader VI.

He was a loyal servant through his family, community, and church.  He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Sarah Blanton Sunday School Class and the 27:17 Men’s Bible Study Group.  He also served on the Finance Committee, and volunteered on other missions such as Help4Kids, My Brother’s Keeper, Outreach, and the B.E.D.S. Ministries.  David also served on the Board of Directors at The Manor.  He was a member of the Mid-Day Sertoma Club and the Blue Water Fishing Club in Florence.  A lifelong outdoorsman, he looked forward to his annual fishing trip to the Outer Banks with the “Blues Brothers Fishing Group,” a group of 50 friends, including his son, Wells.

David was a loving family man and thrived on spending time with his grandchildren.  He took pride in his yard and was most fulfilled when he was helping others.  He was affectionately known as the “Mayor of Juanita” by his neighbors.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Ronda Rotann Alderman; his daughter, Courtney Alderman; his son, David Wells Alderman, IV (Molly); two sisters, Peggy A. Herndon (Jim) and Cindy A. Shaw (Paul); five grandchildren, David Wells Alderman V, Baker Huff Alderman, Sally Brooke Alderman, Samantha Brooke Watford, and Noah Lee Watford; loving nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Scout.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Central United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 265 W. Cheves St., Florence, SC  29501, designated for Operating Budget or the B.E.D.S. Ministry.
