FLORENCE – Dorothy Brinkley Lassiter, age 96, died Monday, April 29, 2024, after an illness.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 3, 2024, at Florence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
She was born in Suffolk, VA, a daughter of the late Floyd James Brinkley, Sr., and Susie Baines Brinkley. A resident of Florence since 1963, Mrs. Lassiter was a teacher at Lake Swamp Academy, Lamar Academy, and All Saints Episcopal School, from which she retired.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church for more than 50 years, and taught children’s Sunday school for many years.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Albert “Jim” Lassiter, Sr.; a sister, Catherine Brinkley Hollowell; a brother, Floyd James Brinkley “F.J.” Brinkley, Jr.; and a daughter-in-law, Gale Lassiter.
Survivors include her three sons, Al Lassiter and Phil Lassiter (Carla), both of Elizabethton, TN, and Michael Lassiter (Betsy) of Florence, SC; a grandson, Britt Lassiter (Molly) of Elizabethton, TN; a granddaughter, Brinkley Allen (Daniel) of Emporia, VA; a step-granddaughter, Shannon Raxter (Gregg) of Surfside Beach, SC; a step-grandson, Clint Gulledge (Melina) of Hartsville, SC; a sister-in-law, Betty Brinkley of Suffolk, VA; and a number of extended family members.
The family would like to express special thanks to her caregiver, Gloria Rozarie, and her hospice nurses.
