Dorothy Harris Thompson

          FLORENCE – Dorothy “Dot” Harris Thompson, 66, died Monday, July 1, 2024, after a brief illness.

          A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2024, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, also at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.  Interment will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 6, in the Old Hillside Cemetery in Laurinburg, North Carolina.

          Mrs. Thompson was born in Laurinburg, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Terrell Whitterson Harris, Jr.  and Savannah Clark Harris.  She began her career in banking in Laurinburg at Wachovia Bank.  She was president of First Union Bank in Bennettsville and Florence, ending her more than 30-year career in Florence.

          She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Florence.

          Survivors include her loving husband, Lonnie F. Thompson, her daughter, Heather Hardin (Zach), and her son, Christopher Lance Thompson, all of Florence; and her brother, Roy Harris, of Laurinburg, NC.  She was affectionately known as “Mimi” to Megan Thompson, Justin James Harpe, Jr., and Lonnie Thomas Harpe, all of Florence.
