Earl McLeod, Sr. Obituary

FLORENCE Earl Emmett McLeod, Sr., 93, died Monday, February 15, 2016, after an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2016, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Florence Memorial Gardens, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the Mausoleum Chapel.

Mr. McLeod was born in Paxville, SC, a son of the late Claude Robert and Minnie Geddings McLeod. He graduated from Florence High School and was a World War II veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Motor Machinist Mate, 3rd Class. He retired in 1983 after 41 years from CSX Railroad, previously Seaboard Coastline and Atlantic Coastline, as a carman and a carman foreman.

He was a Charter member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. McLeod was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Helen Houser McLeod; and a daughter, Nora McLeod McElveen.

He is survived by two sons, C. R. Buck McLeod, of Florence, and Earl E. McLeod, Jr. (Judi), of Lexington, SC; two sisters, Ethel Robinson of Florence and Willie Jordan of Evergreen; and a son-in-law, Stanley McElveen, Sr., of Sardis. Papa, as he was affectionately known, is also survived by four grandchildren, Stanley McElveen, Jr., Andrew McElveen (Carter), Earl E. Beau McLeod, III, and Judith Reid Hester (Jacob), whom he often told how much he loved them and was proud of them; a great-granddaughter, Nora Lynn McElveen, and great-grandson (due in July), Bodie McLeod Hester.

The family would like to express special thanks and appreciation to Brenda Foxworth, loving caregiver and extended family member.
