FLORENCE Edward J. Moore, 85, of Florence passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, November 20, 2015.
He was born in Buffalo, NY, on January 14, 1930 to Michael and Helen Kosinski. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and received his Masters Degree from the University of Buffalo.
Edward is survived by his wife Mary Kathleen (Kathy), whom he married in 1956; four children: Elizabeth Evans of Lewisville, PA, Steven Moore of Florence, Edward Moore of Philadelphia, PA, and Catherine Cocco of Pipersville, PA; a brother, Michael Moore of Napa, CA; a sister, Patricia Kosinski of Buffalo, NY; and a brother-in-law, James Breese of Henrietta, NY. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Emily Thomas, Sarah Moore, Beatrice Thomas, Patrick Wentz, Cecilia Moore, Charles Wentz, and Helen Grace Moore.
He worked for the DuPont Corporation from 1957 until his retirement in 1993. He was recognized as an exceptional engineer with many patents and processes to his credit.
Ed was an avid tennis player, enjoying the game nearly every day. He also enjoyed watching football with his sons, doing projects with his daughters, and traveling the world with his beloved wife. He was a doting Poppy to his seven grandchildren. He loved playing bridge and the Arts, especially Theatre and Opera. Ed was a problem solver; he looked at each day as a gift filled with challenges and joy.
The family will gather at Waters-Powell Funeral Home, 400 S. Dargan St., Florence, SC, for a Wake Service at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 22, 2015, followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 2536 West Hoffmeyer Rd., Florence, SC 29502 at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 23, 2015.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
