FLORENCE Edwin Ervin Cheek, 97, died Thursday morning, August 29, 2013, at McLeod Hospice House after a brief illness.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 30, 2013, in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
Mr. Cheek was born in Laurens County, SC, a son of the late Melvin Robert and Alice Swindler Cheek. He was the owner and operator of the Florence Cake Box bakery in Florence, until his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Florence. Also, he was a member of the Pee Dee Shrine Club, the Mecca Masonic Lodge, and the Carolinas Retail Bakers Association.
Mr. Cheek was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie C. Cheek, and three brothers.
Survivors include his daughter, Beverly C. (John) Harrell, of Florence; three grandchildren, David (Carolyn) Harrell of Borden, Ind., Paige H. (Bryan) Carroll of Charlotte, NC, and Joanna Weldon (Vernon) Powers of Florence; a sister, Mary Cheek Sidler, of Florence; and six great-grandchildren, Maegan Harrell, Mason Harrell, Laura Carroll, Andrew Carroll, Dean Weldon and Benjamin Weldon.
