Fannie Virginia Touchberry

          FLORENCE – Fannie Virginia Touchberry, 80, died Thursday, August 15, 2024, after an illness.

          Funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Tuesday, August 20, 2024, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel with a one-hour visitation immediately preceding, beginning at 11:00 am.  Entombment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum.

          Ms. Touchberry was born in Effingham, SC, a daughter of the late Joseph Rollin and Virginia Rhodes Touchberry.  For many years she ran a grocery store with her husband.  She also worked at Saunders Memorial Hospital in Central Supply, and as a nurses’ aide at a nursing home.  She was a member of Bethsaida Methodist Church.

          As a child, she enjoyed riding her horse, “Winnie,” and jumping the canal.  As a fearless adult, she enjoyed riding her purple chopper.

          A loving daughter, mother, sister, and grandmother, Fannie was her best when taking care of others.  She took care of her mother for many years after her mother became disabled.

          She was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Nancy Floyd Miles; a sister, Evelyn Matthews; two brothers, Willie Edward “Peavine” Touchberry and Joseph R. Touchberry, Jr.; and a nephew, Chris Touchberry.

          Survivors include her daughter, Joanna Floyd Turbeville (Julian) of Florence; a grandson, John Miles (Kristi Smith) of Columbia, SC; a brother, John Touchberry (Carolyn) of Florence; and nine nieces and nephews:  Jennie Matthews, Sherry Greene (Kermit), Belinda Townsend (Tony), Chandra Register, Vickie T. Hediger, Will Touchberry (Johnette), April Hanson (Wes), Robin Hewitt (Chris), and Amy Scott (Clint).
