Florence Norris Hoffmeyer

          Florence Norris Hoffmeyer, born October 27, 1948, in Rocky Mount, NC, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at the age of 77. A beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and love.

          Florence was the daughter of the late Leaman Dozier Norris and Geraldine Barrett Norris. She was preceded in death by her son, Simeon Scott “Sims” Hoffmeyer Jr., her brothers, Leaman Gerarde Norris and Clarence Samuel Norris, and niece, Lila Rebecca Norris. She is survived by her brother, Stephen Patrick (Susan) Norris, her nieces, Martha Norris (Brian) Rauch and Sarah Norris, as well as her great nieces and nephews. 

          A dedicated educator, Florence received her degree in Education from the University of South Carolina and spent many years teaching in the Florence and Darlington County school systems. 

          Florence was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where she found strength and comfort in her faith. She was known for her warmth, compassion, and the strength she displayed through every challenge life presented. Her cherished dog, Lilah, was a constant companion, bringing joy and comfort to her in her later years.

          Florence’s loving heart extended to many dear friends who provided unwavering support and care over the years. Her generosity and loving spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

          Florence will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on through the lives she touched, her love of teaching, and her devotion to her family and faith.

          A funeral mass will be said at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 16, 2026, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial following in Pisgah Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, at the church.

          In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church or the Florence Humane Society.
