Foye Matthews Obituary

FLORENCE - Foye R. Matthews Mema passed away December 30, 2013 after a brief illness. Foye was born in Georgetown County on August 20, a daughter of the late Joseph Joe Melvin Rowe and the late Louiza Lou Douglas Rowe. She graduated from Pleasant Hill Schools. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ashton B. Matthews; her twin sister, Faye Rowe Norris; sister, Dorson Rowe Howell; brothers, Melvin Rowe, Aaron Rowe, and Eddie Rowe; a special niece, Kathy Norris Pearce.

Foye was a loving Mother to many and never met a stranger. She was very active in St. Paul United Methodist Church as a member for 48 years. She helped developed, organize, and lead the Childrens Church program, served as the Wedding Coordinator and was also very involved in the Jimmy McNair Sunday School Class working as the Sunshine Committee Chairperson. She served on the Staff-Parrish Relationship Committee, United Methodist Womens group, the Worship Committee, the Nurture Committee, as well as always assisting in decorating the church on holidays and delivering gifts to the shut-in church members. She was also active in many community groups including the Green Thumb Garden Club, the Lunch Bunch, Birthday Club, and her Circle at church.

She was held in the highest regard by all of her family and friends. She was beautiful inside and out and her life was complete by her love for her family, friends, and her faith in God. She was always a pleasure to be around and always wanted to help anyone in any way. She never wanted credit for anything thing she did and her joy was in serving others. Her love was her most precious gift because she loved with her whole heart. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren and friends with her entire being and let us know we were the center of her life, as she was ours.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters: Susan (Gene) Courtney of Florence, Pam (Scotty) Campbell of Lake City; and a special niece, Cindy (Jake) Stroup of Florence; grandchildren: Billy Campbell of Tybee Island, Ga., Ashley Campbell of Florence, and Whit Campbell of Columbia, SC; special great niece and nephew, Jessica Stroup and Jason Stroup. She is also survived by her sisters, Burdell Cribb and Kathleen Goude, as well as a sister-in-law, Lena Rowe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
