MANNING - Frances Claire Beck, 72, passed away peacefully Friday, July 3, 2015, at her home on Lake Marion in Manning, SC, with the ones she loved so dearly at her bedside. Claire was born in Florence, a daughter of the late Waldo M. Beck, Jr. and Frances Stackley Beck.
She graduated from McClenaghan High School and was a National Merit Scholarship recipient. She graduated from Winthrop College with a BA in English and went on to earn a Masters Degree in English. She taught English at McClenaghan and South Florence High Schools, retiring after 30 years in education. After retirement she continued in SAT preparation workshops in many school districts in the state for several years.
She was an avid accomplished stoneware potter and greatly enjoyed photography, which she used in her many travels in the United States and abroad.
She is survived by longtime friend, Susan Lewis, brother Waldo M. (Trey) Beck, III, and half brother Gregory M. Beck, all of Manning, SC.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 6, 2015, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
