EFFINGHAM Frances Stokes Hancock, 86, died Thursday, November 21, 2013, after an illness.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 24, 2013, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Lebanon Cemetery in Effingham. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
She was born in Sumter County, SC, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ellen Floyd Stokes. She was a member of Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church and a homemaker. Mrs. Hancock will always be remembered for her love of fishing.
She was predeceased by her husband, Tracy Walter Hancock; a daughter, Betty Ann Ratelle; a son, Daniel Webster; and a grandson, Tony Lagrand Geddings.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy (John) Batchelor of Effingham; three sons, Don (Pamela) Hancock and Walter Tracy Hancock, both of Effingham, and Paul Charlie Hancock of Cusaac; son-in-law, Bill Ratelle of Effingham; eight grandchildren, Donald Hancock Jr., Tracy H. (Keith) Fields, Walter T. Hancock Jr., Kimberly (Jeff) Ard, Frances (Jason) Springs, Charlie Hancock, Johnny Nettles, and Daniel Nettles; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Cody Hancock, Brandon Allen, Sloane Fields, Stokes Fields, Tiffany Hancock, Tray Hancock, Tyler Lagrand Stricklin, Christopher Prentice, Rebecca Prentice, John Adam Stricklin, Micah Springs, Conner Springs, and Shane Jeffrey Ard.
