Frances Boykin Maynard

FLORENCE Frances Boykin Maynard, widow of James Leslie Maynard, died Monday, December 7, 2015, at her home after an illness.

Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Grove Hill Cemetery in Darlington, SC, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home of Florence. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

She was born in Williamsburg County, the daughter of Marvin Lenton and Hazeline Player Boykin, and was raised on Hobcaw Plantation in Georgetown, SC. After moving to Darlington, SC, she graduated from St. Johns High School and from Converse College in 1956. She was a school teacher and taught in many schools, including All Saints Episcopal School in Florence and Hudgens Academy in Lynchburg, SC.

Fran loved the Lord and was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. She was also an avid dancer and was a member of the Four Seasons Dance Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Lillian M. Lil Merritt of Florence; a son, James B. Jim Maynard of Surfside Beach; four grandchildren, H. Wesley Beasley, Jr. (Vanessa) of Austin, TX, Megan Beasley Gioldasis (Pete), James B. Maynard, Jr., Daniel L. Maynard (Mallory), and Brittany R. Merritt, all of Florence; and a great-grandson, Landon J. Maynard.

The family expresses special thanks to TriCounty Hospice for their excellent care of Mrs. Maynard.
