FLORENCE, SC – Frank Walter Messerle, Jr., age 77, died Saturday, February 1, 2025, after an illness.
He was born in East Stroudsburg, PA, a son of the late Frank Walter Messerle, Sr., and Rosemarie Rogers Messerle, and was raised in Bushkill, PA. Frank was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Viet Nam War.
He was the former Chief of Police in Stroud Township, Pennsylvania. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, and riding his Harley. He was also a big Philadelphia Eagles fan.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Kathie Fry Messerle.
Survivors include three daughters, Elaine Gibson (David) of Plainfield, IN, Sherry Goldman (Sonny) of East Stroudsburg, PA, and Sandy Messerle of Stroudsburg, PA; two step-sons, Steven Fry (Dawn) of Centreville, VA, and Chris Kishbaugh (Heather) of Calabash, NC; a sister, Roseann VanWhy (Larry) of Bushkill, PA; niece and nephew, Bonnie Wargo (Gabe) and Daniel VanWhy (Kristen), also of Bushkill, PA; four grandchildren, Sage Johnson (Tiffany), Seth Johnson (Misty), Justin Petrella (Olivia), and Maya Petrella; and two great-grandchildren, Emilynne Johnson and Kaleb Johnson.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Florence National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date and will be held in Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, the veterans’ organization of one’s choice, or charity of one’s choice.
