George Todd Obituary

George S. Todd

FLORENCE - George Sescel Todd, 88, passed away at home on May 18, 2015, after a brief illness. He was known to be a man of deep faith, gentle spirit, quick wit and unwavering devotion to his family. During his six decades as a member of First Baptist Church, he was active as a Sunday School leader and served for more than 30 years as a deacon. George shared his love for the Lord through daily prayer, witnessing to others and the distribution of New Testaments through Gideon's International.

Many in the community will remember him as the owner of Colony Furniture Company where he prided himself on providing personal attention to each customer. Frequently people have shared that they still own and enjoy pieces they purchased from him. As a second career, he worked for Enterprise Car Rental for over ten years.

George was especially proud of his WWII service in the Pacific while in the Navy. Several years ago he had the privilege to be on an Honors Flight to Washington, DC, in recognition of WWII veterans. He was also the family historian and enjoyed sharing stories about his youthful adventures.

George was predeceased by his mother, father, one brother and three sisters. He is survived by a sister, Sara T. Conway. For 56 years he was married to Wilmina Hardee Todd before her passing, and together they had two devoted daughters, Connie and Wanda. George was fortunate also to have found love again with wife Nancy H. Todd and children Arthur, Mary and David and five step-grandchildren. Many extended family members hold treasured memories of George. All of us know God is holding him gently in his arms and our lives are richer because of him.

A service to celebrate George's life will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at First Baptist Church, 300 S. Irby Street, Florence, SC 29501. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to First Baptist Church or to Gideons, P.O. Box 4964, Florence, SC 29502. Arrangements are being handled by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
