FLORENCE Gladys Capps Polk Potter passed away on December 11, 2015. She was 79 years old. Gladys was born and raised in Florence, a daughter of William Stafford and Annie Weaver Capps. She was a wonderful woman who loved deeply her family and friends and was loved by everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Virginia Capps Johnson and Mary Ann Capps; and her first husband, Michael Farmer Polk.
Surviving are her husband, Donald W. Potter; daughter, Angela L. Polk; a son, Michael S. Polk; two granddaughters, Jordan Polk and Michaela Polk; two great-grandchildren; three special nieces, Sheila J. McHugh, Tamra J. Nichols, and Allison J. Rhodes; a special step-nephew, James H. Potter; and many grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 13, 2015, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Calvary Baptist Church, 915 Cherokee Rd., Florence, SC 29501 or to McLeod Hospice House, c/o McLeod Foundation, P. O. Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502-0551.
