FLORENCE – Harvey Nunley Honney, Jr., age 84, died Tuesday, January 28, 2025, after an illness.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2025, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Honney was born in Darlington, South Carolina, a son of the late Harvey N. and Lurline S. Honney. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years, where he was a Third Class Petty Officer. He was employed as an electrician with Dixie Cup in Darlington, and then ESAB in Florence, from which he retired. In his earlier years, he was an auxiliary policeman and a member of the Florence Rescue Squad.
He enjoyed coaching little league baseball and softball, and NASCAR racing.
He is survived by his wife, Carol W. Honney, of the home; a daughter, Amy Daniel (Jimmy) of Moncks Corner, SC; two sons, Robert Honney (Lisa) of Moncks Corner and James “Dan” Honney (Heather) of Florence; six granddaughters, Melinda Hyatt (Steven), Lauren Garand (Dustin), Jacelyn Honney, and Jenna Daniel, all of Florence, Jessica Turner (Scott) of Reno, NV, and Riley Daniel of Moncks Corner; a grandson, Wyman Daniel of Moncks Corner; four great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Catheryn Hyatt, and Dalton and Grayson Garand, all of Florence; a sister-in-law, Melba Honney; and many extended family members.
Mr. Honney was predeceased by his three sisters, Wilma Banks, Blanche Honney, and Carolyn Honney; and four brothers, E. J. Flowers, Oliver Honney, Olin Honney, and Ronald Honney.
Memorials may be made to Shriners’ Hospitals for Children or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
