Florence - Hazel Jean Truluck Perry, 92, died peacefully at her home February 10, 2014. Hazel was born March 8, 1921 in Sumter County, SC to the late Eugene David Truluck and the late Edna Gowdy Moore Truluck. Hazel is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Lee Roy Perry, sister, Grace Milicent Bradley, brother Eugene David Truluck Jr., and granddaughter Chelsea Truluck Allen.
Hazel is survived by her 96 year old sister, Orilla Marguerite Dowling, daughter Linda Truluck Perry Allen and her husband, Dr. Robert Johnson Allen; son, Dr. Lee Roy Perry Jr. and his wife, Diane Hill Perry; grandchildren Julia Marshall Allen, Dr. Robert Johnson Allen Jr. and wife, Kelley Anne Andrews Allen, James Perry Allen, Celeste Blackwell Allen, Anna Truluck Perry, Louis Tyler Perry, Margaret Wicker Perry, great grandson Daniel Patterson Allen, and her favorite niece Brenda Bradley Davis.
Hazel graduated from Sherwood High School in Lynchburg SC in 1938, completed comptometer training in Atlanta, GA subsequently working for the mail order division of Sears and Roebuck. Hazel married Lee Roy Perry in the First Baptist Church, Florence on July 5,1945. Hazel has been a member of First Baptist Church for almost three quarters of a century and taught Sunday School for many years. She was an active member of the Florence Garden Club and two Florence bridge clubs.
Her life centered on family, friends, music and Jesus Christ.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Waters Powell Funeral Home, 400 South Dargan Street, Florence. A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church Florence at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 15th with an entombment service to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery Mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church at 300 South Irby Street, Florence, SC 29501. Please designate memorials to the restoration of the church organ.
