FLORENCE - H. Lewis Crocker, 93, died Wednesday, October 09, 2013 in Oakleaf Village in Lexington.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum in Florence. The family will receive friends at the Mausoleum Chapel from 1:00 2:00 p.m.
Mr. Crocker was born in Charlotte, NC, a son of the late Herman Seburn and Opal Grace Carpenter Crocker. He was a World War II Veteran, serving as a pilot in the US Air Force. After the war, he attended Lenoir Rhyne College and obtained a B.S. Degree. After graduation, Mr. Crocker became an agent with the FBI and moved his family to Indianapolis, Indiana. Deciding that the South would be a better place for his family, he changed careers after several years in the FBI and became an insurance agent with the General Adjustment Bureau.
In 1959, Mr. Crocker moved to Florence to become branch manager of GAB where he was employed until his retirement at age 65. An avid golfer, he once shot a hole-in-one at Florence Country Club. He was active in the development of the Florence Airport and flew for years with the Civil Air Patrol.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 70 years, Virginia R. Crocker of Florence; two daughters, Vicki C. Flerx of Gilbert, and Diane C. Bryant of Augusta, GA; two brothers, Bois and Melvin Crocker and their families; grandchildren, David Lester Flerx, Wendy Marie Flerx (Christopher W. Sample) and Daniel Malcolm Bryant; and great-grandchildren, Miranda Hope Flerx, Christopher Brooks Sample, and Skyler Finn Sample.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to the Alzheimers Association, SC Chapter, 3223 Sunset Blvd, and West Columbia, SC 29169.
