Holmes E. Martin, Sr.

FLORENCE Rev. Holmes Ellsworth Martin, Sr., 80, died Wednesday, August 27, 2014, in a local hospital after an illness.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 29, 2014, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

He was born in Horry County, SC, a son of the late Isaac Baker and Minnie Rebecca Howell Martin. He earned his Doctor of Divinity degree and was a minister for 64 years. He loved the Lord with all of his heart, mind, and soul, and served many churches over the years, most recently Crossroad Ministries in Florence. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Floyd Martin, of the home; three daughters, Derri M. (Allen) McCormick of Pamplico, Becki Lynne (Ed) Zmyewski of Florence, and Bobbie Martin, also of Florence; two sons, Anthony Ray Martin of Florence and Holmes E. Marty (Donna) Martin, Jr., of Newport News, VA; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by five brothers, Melvin, I.B. Jr., Monroe, Emory, and Rev. Olin L. Martin.
