James Ellis Banks

FLORENCE James Ellis Banks, Sr., 81, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013.

Mr. Banks was born on February 13, 1932 in Darlington, SC, a son of the late Monie E. and Ellie Moody Banks. He served one year in the National Guard in Darlington, and four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

After attending electronics school in Miami, Florida, he owned and operated Banks Heating and Air Conditioning Company in Florence for 45 years.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Banks was preceded in death by three brothers, Keith, Monie, and Billy Banks; and three sisters, Mary Matthews, Blanche Dickerson and Betty Payne.

Survivors include Sue Grooms; two sons, James Jimmy Banks and wife Dana, and Gerald Jerry Banks and wife Donna; and four grandchildren, Katelyn, Courtney, Sheldon, and Brandon Banks.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013, in Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with burial to follow. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the mausoleum, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
