FLORENCE James Joseph Magee, 97, devoted husband of 72 years, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2014, at McLeod Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mary Green Magee. Jim spent his boyhood summers at the shore in Wildwood, NJ, and was a good student which earned him the position of bat boy for Connie Macks Philadelphia Athletics. He graduated from Saint Josephs Preparatory School and always had an interest in U.S. History. He served with the greatest generation in WWII and earned a Bronze Star while serving in Korea with the Army Corps of Engineers. He transferred to Florence in 1967 with Union Carbide and retired in 1983 after 26 years of service as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer.
A faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, he was blessed with a long healthy retirement, enjoying quarterly visits to the mountains of NC and weekly day trips to Huntington Beach State Park for all day walks on the beach with his beloved wife and their dachshund.
His passing was preceded by his sister, Kay Forrest, and his loving daughter, Janet. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Hammond Magee; their three sons, Jim (Margaret), George (Pat), and John (Haylee); grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
