James Edward Putnam, Sr.

FLORENCE – James Edward Putnam, Sr., 83, went to be with his heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at McLeod Hospice House after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Greenwood Baptist Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.

Mr. Putnam was born in Mullins, SC, a son of the late George Edward Putnam, Sr., and Inez Jones Putnam Smith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and was awarded the Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster.

He was employed with Southern Electronics as a salesman for 31 years and retired from McCall Supply Company.

Mr. Putnam was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Don Hucks Sunday School Class and the Seniors’ Group. He also served as an usher and on the Hostess Committee.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Windham Putnam of the home; children, James Edward Putnam, Jr. (Peggy), Marva Putnam Williams (George), and Lisa Putnam Kirven (Louis), all of Florence; grandchildren, Stacy Putnam, Patrick Putnam, Brooke Williams Newell (Brock), Lauren Kirven and Parker Kirven, all of Florence, and Capt. Blake Putnam (Vanessa) of Ohio; great-grandchildren, Eastin and Brentley Newell; brother, Wayne Putnam, and sister, Joyce Dabney, both of Florence.

He was predeceased by a brother, George Edward Putnam, Jr.
