James Saleeby Obituary

James (Jim) Michael Saleeby, 70, passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 at 9:00pm at McLeod Hospital in Florence, SC.


A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence, SC, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after the service.


Jim leaves his wife, Sylvia Wilkerson Saleeby; his son, James Jay Michael Saleeby Jr. and his wife, Gailey Commander Saleeby; his daughter, Brice Saleeby Hipp and her husband, Francis Reid Hipp; five grandchildren, Cates and Eliza Gregg Saleeby, Camilla, Hayne and James Reid Hipp; his father, James Saleeby; his step-daughter, Sandi Michelle Henderson and her husband, Paul; his step-son, Michael Scott Garris and his wife, Valerie; two stepchildren, Jessica Garris
Amerson and Austin Michael Garris and many close friends.



Jim was born in Dillon, SC on September 17, 1945. He was the son of Rosa Jean Rosie and James Saleeby.



After high school, Jim attended Wofford College and St. Andrews College before earning a Juris Doctorate from The University of South Carolina. He dedicated his career to family law and practiced in the Pee Dee area of South Carolina for over forty years and took great pride in serving the interest of his clients. Jim was both admired and respected in the legal community.


Jim was an extremely loving man and was especially proud of his two children, Brice and Jay. He enjoyed sports, especially playing golf at The Florence Country Club, of which he was a proud member for over 35 years, as well watching the Atlanta Braves and South Carolina Gamecock sports.


It is an understatement to say that Jim will be missed. He was loved by many and for many different reasons. Whether you were a client, a neighbor, a family member or just a friend who knew him as Jimmy, we all wish him peace.
