FLORENCE – James Ray “Jimbo” Hyman, 76, died Sunday, January 26, 2025, after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2025, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private. The funeral service will be live-streamed on the Facebook page of "Karen David Todd Elvis."
He was born in Florence, SC, on March 13, 1948, one of six children of the late Sidney Grady and Mary Yopp Hyman. He graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1963 and from the University of South Carolina with a degree in civil engineering. He was employed with Vulcraft for a number of years, where he played a part in developing the entrance to Walt Disney World. He was then employed with Shaw Lumber Company until his retirement. He also served in the South Carolina National Guard for eight years.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Edward Sidney Hyman.
He is survived by three brothers, David L. Weatherford of Irmo, SC, Robert G. Hyman (Rachell) of Florence, and Freddie W. Hyman, Sr. (Annelle) of Greenville, SC; a sister, Betty Hyman Kelly (Tommy) of Florence; eight nieces and nephews, Karen H. Elvis (Todd) and Tripp Kelly (Jennifer), both of Florence, Melissa H. Esser (Jeff) of Chicago, IL, Connie Melia (Chris) and Todd Weatherford, both of Columbia, SC, Wayne Hyman (Fran) of Timmonsville, Jonathan Hyman (Katie) of Greenville, SC, and Jennifer Kelly Crawford (Brian) of Charleston, SC; and many great-nieces and -nephews.
