FLORENCE – Janie Williams Ray, 97, was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, after an illness, surrounded by the love of her family. Her courage throughout her illness became a testament of faith and love, touching the lives around her with her strength and unshakable hope till the end.
Ms. Ray was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on November 11, 1927, to the late William C. Robert Williams and Zulina West Elmore Williams. She worked in the credit department at Sears in Florence for 41 years.
She was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Florence. She faithfully volunteered in the church administrative office every Monday for 31 years. She was a member of the Lawson-Rain Sunday School Class, the Soul Sisters Circle, and the Keenagers. Her life was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Louis Ray, Sr.; and two brothers, William Alfred Williams and Gordon Carlisle Williams.
Survivors include her son, Robert Louis Ray, Jr. (Frances) of Florence; a grandson, Robert Thomas Ray; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 3, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church with visitation one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
