FLORENCE - Jean Boyd O'Neal Cashion died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, after an illness.
Born in Florence and raised in Mullins, SC, she was the eldest child of Louelma Edwards O'Neal and Boyd Brunson O'Neal. She attended Coker College as a music major, becoming an accomplished pianist, before transferring to the Medical University of South Carolina, obtaining a degree as a Registered Nurse. She married William Ronald Cashion in 1947, and upon his graduation from the Citadel they settled in Charleston where she worked at Roper Hospital. Her only child, Lisa, was born in 1955.
In 1960 they moved to Florence and she stayed busy raising Lisa, working as the plant nurse at General Electric, and in activities at St. John's Church. For many years she was a loving caregiver to Bill, and while this selfless service made it difficult for her to travel and remain active in the community, she found an amazing and loving friend in Hamlet, her precious dog of many years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Cashion, and her brother, Boyd Brunson O'Neal Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa LeMonte of Old Saybrook, CT, and her sister, Carole Anne O'Neal of Mt. Pleasant, SC.
A Memorial Service will be 4:00 p.m., Monday, July 22, 2013, at St. John's Church, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John's Church would be appreciated.
