Jeanette Floyd Welch, 80, died Monday, April 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Elim Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, in the church Family Life Center and other times at her residence.
Jeanette was born in Florence, SC, a daughter of the late Ira Maxie Floyd, Jr., and Christine Wiggins Floyd. She graduated from Southside High School in Florence. She retired from CP&L after more than 30 years of service. She then worked as an executive assistant for The Honorable Hicks Harwell and The Honorable Tommy Russo for 20 years.
She enjoyed sports and played on a Senior Women’s Basketball Team and traveled as far as Arizona to compete. She was also a bowler and participated in the Garter Bowl League, where she served as president.
Jeanette was a dedicated member of Elim Baptist Church and the Janie Chapman Group. She also served on the decorating committee.
She was a member and treasurer of a local investment group called the Invesisters for 10 years.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Willie Mack Floyd; and an aunt, Adeen Taylor.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert “Bobby” Welch, of Florence; three sisters, Kay (Jim Harwell) Floyd of Mars Bluff, SC, Iris (Ronnie) Gibson of Florence, and Melanie (Johnny) Barr of Effingham; two nephews, Al (Dawn) Bescher, Jr. and Cody (Courtney) Barr, both of Effingham; and a great-niece, Addison Bescher, also of Effingham.
