Jerry Marsh, Jr. Obituary

Jerry M. Marsh Jr. of Florence died December 18, 2014 after a brief illness. He was a native of Augusta Ga. and lived there until 1940. He graduated from Richmond Academy Prep School and attended Clemson University until he joined the United States Air Force as a B-24 pilot during World War II in Europe. He was the recipient of an Air Medal, three Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He flew seventeen missions during the war.


He graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in Business Administration and began working with the Atlantic Coast Railroad. Ten years later, he joined Pilot Life Insurance---which became Jefferson Pilot---and enjoyed a successful career in Insurance. He was one of the ten leading Agents for the company. He was a member of the Million Dollar Life Insurance Sales for several years.


His second love, other than God and his family, was golf. He played many rounds over the years. He even shot his age when he was 74 and had nine holes-in-one during his playing days. He enjoyed dancing and going to the beach.

He and his family joined the Central United Methodist Church in 1956. He and Mary then joined First Presbyterian Church before becoming one of the founding members of Trinity Presbyterian Church. He later returned to Central Methodist and remained there until his death. He was a member of the Florence Rotary Club for twenty-five years.


He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry M. Marsh III. Surviving are his wife, Mary B. Marsh, daughter Georgiana M. Key (Randolph), and son, T. Britt Marsh (Lura). He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Debbie Marsh. In addition, he leaves behind eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


The family will have a private memorial service Saturday, December 20, 2014 with a visitation period for friends in the Spears Fellowship Hall at Central Methodist Church beginning at 11:30 a.m.
