John Hamilton Touchberry, 83, passed peacefully on October 3, 2025 at the McLeod Hospice House surrounded by family.
A native of Florence, SC, John was the son of the late Joseph Rollins Sr. and Virginia Rhodes Touchberry. He was third of five siblings and was predeceased by Evelyn Matthews, Joseph R. Touchberry Jr., Willie E. Touchberry, and Fannie Touchberry. John was also predeceased by his youngest child and only son, John Christopher “Chris” Touchberry
John proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Crisis of 1962. In his free time, he enjoyed wood-working and building furniture pieces for his family and friends.
John was the husband to and is survived by the love of his life Carolyn Pigate Touchberry whom he was married to for 63 years. He is survived by their children, Robin Hewitt (Chris) and Amy Scott (Clint); their grandchildren, Kaylee Hewitt, Chloe Scott Jordan (Luke), Hayden Scott, Madeline Scott, and Ella Scott; and their great-grandchildren, Wilder Jordan and Livingston Jordan.
The family would like to extend to great thanks to the entire staff of the McLeod Hospice House for their devotion to and caring for John and his family during this time, as well as to Dr. James C.H. Smith, MD of McLeod Oncology and Hematology Associates.
A visitation service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025 at Waters-Powell Funeral Home of Florence. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a graveside service to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence.
