Johnny Wayne Medford

FLORENCE Johnny Wayne Medford, 71, of 2025 S. Firetower Road, Florence, SC, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2015, after an illness. He was born on January 5, 1944, in Canton, NC, a son of the late George Vaughn Medford and Ruth Johnson Medford Messer. He was the grandson of the late John Johnson and Eva Mae Fox Johnson. Johnny attended Canton city schools. He began his career with Daniels Construction as a rigger, then a mill-right and structural iron journeyman. He retired from Wellman Industries-Flor Daniels and BE&K Construction of Darlington in May, 2003. Johnny enjoyed gardening, camping, being in his workshop, and vacationing in the mountains.

He was predeceased by his parents; step-father, Fred Messer; and three brothers, George, Herman and Jerry Medford.

Survivors include his wife, Connie, of the residence; children, Ronnie Medford, Laura (Sam) Wallace, Jennifer (Ernest) Mixon of Darlington, SC, David (Dawn) Medford of Boiling Springs, SC; step-children, Chris Leeson of Florence, David (Kathrina) Leeson of Diamond, MO, and Melinda (Dan) Scanlon of Panama City, FL; six grandchildren, Rachel Medford, Cory (Michelle) Wallace, Jordan (Matt) Crow, Jamie Medford, Katie Griggs and Haley Gainey; a step-granddaughter, Victoria Alexander; nine great-grandchildren, Addison Rainey, Mallory Jo Pierce, Nathan, Nicholas, Caleb, Hannah Griggs and Makinze Hopkins, Alexander and Bryant Wallace.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
