FLORENCE - Johnny Belle Lewis Rodrigue, 82, of Florence, died Monday, August 5, 2013. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 9, 2013, at 11:00 am at All Saints Episcopal Church in Florence with interment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters Powell Funeral Home.

Johnny was born to Ella Mae Jones and Ernest Lewis, May 5, 1931, in Bamberg County, SC. She was the first daughter of 11 siblings.

She married Ernest Louis Rodrigue of Florence November 25, 1950. They moved to Florence from Winston Salem, NC, in 1957. She established a successful career with the Florence County Probate Court, working there for nearly 30 years and serving as Clerk of Probate Court.

Johnny was an early organizer of the Florence County Republican Party and worked steadfastly to promote two party government in South Carolina. She also was actively involved in the founding and promotion of James F. Byrnes Academy in 1966.

She was a helper at heart, volunteering in various ways in the community throughout her life. She served for some years at the Presbyterian Home, helped build sets at the Florence Little Theater and is remembered as a beloved mentor and leader of her Girl Scout Troop #4.

Johnny was a charter member of All Saints Episcopal Church and a former member of the vestry. She was a charter and 62-year member of the Gay Gardeners Garden club and an active member and a past president of the Tarantella.

She is survived by her three children: Rex Rodrigue and his wife, Anna, of Greenville, SC; Renee Black and her husband, Buddy, of Panama City, FL; Risa Collins and her husband, Todd, of Greenville, SC; and six grandchildren: Brittany Woodruff and her husband, Paden, Jay Black, Eliza Rodrigue, Ron Rodrigue, Dixon Collins and Anna Collins; three sisters: Doris Irick, Louise Hughes, and Elsie Fogle, and five brothers: Jerry Lewis, James Lewis, Rufus Lewis, Daniel Lewis, and Tom Lewis. She is also survived by her sweetheart of 24 years, Colonel Joseph T. Griffin Jr.

Memorials may be made to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 611 East Cleveland St, Dillon, SC, 29536.

The family will be at home.
