Joseph Edward Pruitt, 77, of Florence, South Carolina, passed away April 14, 2026.
Born January 28, 1949, in Dayton, Kentucky, Joseph was a graduate of Campbell County High School in Alexandria, Kentucky, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Cincinnati. He served as an officer the United States Navy and then in the Navy Reserves, with a final rank of Lieutenant.
Joseph built a distinguished career in public accounting, spending many years as a CPA with Munn & Associates and maintaining long-standing membership in the South Carolina Association of CPAs.
He was a devoted member of All Saints Anglican Church in Florence. In his personal life, Joseph loved to work with his hands: he baked and canned jams; his woodworking filled the lives of friends, family, and his church with handmade pieces bearing his signature touch of purple heart wood. It was a nod to his favorite color, which showed just as readily in his personal style. He had an eye for excellent craftsmanship, especially in otherwise ordinary items. He also had a deep love of cars and was working to restore a classic Nissan Z at the time of his passing.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 37 years, Georgie-Anne Tyson Pruitt; his daughter, Heather Drennan, and her husband Judson of Cary, North Carolina; his son, Stewart Bobbett, and his partner Jessica Willis of Florence; his granddaughters, Ren and Rain Drennan of Cary; and his sisters, Donna McCleary of Paia, Hawaii, and Patricia Abel of Clermont, Florida; and Mark Hamshaw, a beloved young friend who held a special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Pruitt and Betty Jean Hall Pruitt.
A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026 at All Saints Anglican Church in Florence. The family will be greeting friends and relatives in the Parish Hall at a reception immediately following the service. Burial will follow at the Florence National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to All Saints Church, with the funds to support restoration of the bell tower.
