FLORENCE Joseph Larkin Southerland, 81, of Quinby, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013 exactly 3 weeks after his beloved wife Mary Jim Southerland who predeceased him on August 22, 2013. They are now reunited and the heavens rejoice.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Southerland was born in Greenville, SC, a son of the late Ralph and Beulah Rice Southerland. He was the owner of The Attic Studio in Quinby, SC and an award winning professional composer and musician. In addition, Mr. Southerland spent many years as an
evangelist, pastor, music director and inspirational leader in congregations across the US. He was inducted into the Pee Dee Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2003.
Survivors include his son, Jeff (Trudi) Southerland of Charlotte, NC; a step-daughter, Tiffany Dawkins of Timmonsville; a step-son, Eric (Kris) Bell of Monterey,
Calif.; a sister, Wilma Edmonds of Greer, SC; a brother, Lee (Alanda) Southerland of Hendersonville, TN; and nine grandchildren.
