Julian Blalock Hood

          FLORENCE – Julian Blalock Hood, 93, passed away peacefully in the early morning of  June 27, 2025.

          Born in Wayne County, NC, on October 10, 1931, he learned the value of a dollar, hard work, family and faith.  To escape farm life he joined the Air Force in 1951 and served with distinction for over 20 years, including tours of duty in Africa, Panama, Korea, and Southeast Asia.  He later started a very successful contracting business with hundreds of satisfied customers.

          Julian enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and brothers-in-law, and was an avid NASCAR fan.  The story is told of how he “raced to the races” in his 1957 Chevy to the Southern 500 in Darlington.

          In his later years, he enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and showered them with love.

          Countless friends, family, and colleagues will remember him for his energy, conservative values, generosity and faithfulness to his family and his God. 

          Julian was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Leon and Eunice Edgerton Hood; his wife, Helen Ray Hood; five brothers, Thomas Allen Hood, Harvey Leon Hood, Jr., Joe Carlton Hood, Floyd Edgerton Hood, and James Robert Hood; and three sisters, Edna Earle Simmons, Thelma Hood Gavin Williams, and Annette Hood Robinson.

          Survivors include his children, Sandra H. English of Southpoint, NC, William D. Hood of John’s Creek, GA, and Julie H. Jones of Florence; two siblings, Eunice Carter Baldwin (Kelly) of Bladenboro, NC, and Roy Lee Hood of Toronto, Canada; three grandchildren, Almon Anthony English, Cari Rebecca Hood, and Kaytlyn Rae Jones; and three great-grandchildren, Jaxton Eli Kucek, Raya Corrinne Hanna, and Julian Patrick Murman.

          Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in the Chapel of Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.  Entombment will follow in the mausoleum.

          In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Air Force Sergeants’ Association or to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
