HARTSVILLE – Kim Smith Haynes, 66, died peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2024, after a long illness.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Monday, June 17, 2024, at Trinity Methodist Church, Darlington, SC, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Welsh Neck Baptist Church Cemetery, Society Hill, SC, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home of Florence.
Kim was born in Darlington, SC, a daughter of Amelia Kelley Smith and the late Thomas Theodore Smith. She attended Coker College and graduated from Francis Marion University. As a dedicated educator, she taught middle school math in Darlington County for 27 years until retirement.
Kim was a loving wife to her husband, Scott, who predeceased her. Her love of children defined her life as a mother, grandmother, aunt, and teacher.
In addition to her father, Thomas T. Smith, and husband, Scott D. Haynes, she was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Eleanor Irby Haynes, and a sister-in-law and dear friend, Sue Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Irby Haynes DuBose (Adam) of Hartsville; her three precious grandchildren, Wallace, Law, and Haynes DuBose; her mother, Amelia Smith, of Hartsville; her six siblings, Tommy Smith (Carol), Vicki Chaplin (Tommy), Derrick Smith (Tanya), David Smith, Kelley Rudisell (Butch), all of Hartsville, and Ashby Smith (Beth) of Cheraw, SC; and many nieces and nephews, whom she dearly loved. She is also survived by her father-in-law, Wallace Haynes of Darlington and sister-in-law, Cindy Green (Will) of Florence.
She was most affectionately named Sass by her daughter, Irby, and her grandchildren Wallace, Law, and Haynes who brought her the greatest joy.
