Larry Quick Obituary

Larry Howard Quick, 69, died Monday, August 4, 2025, after an illness.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Tans Bay Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m.  Burial, with military honors, will follow at Florence National Cemetery.  Services are directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.

Larry was born in Laurinburg, NC, a son of the late Howard and Joyce Quick.  He graduated from Loris High School and Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Larry was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Larry was a past employee of the Guaranty Bank Computer Center and HRS Textiles for many years.  He retired from the Florence County Sheriff’s Department due to health issues.

Karate was a major part of his life, and made sure Debbie knew that long before they were married.  Some of his Black Belts participated in their wedding by forming an arch with their swords under which the new husband and wife processed out after the ceremony.  He spent many hours teaching karate, always beginning and closing his classes with prayer.  He instilled Christian values into more young lives than one can imagine, helping to develop character for those who had contact with him.  He taught his students discipline, honor and respect for others, as well as Christian aspects of life.

He always praised God for any chance he had to share Jesus with anyone. He will certainly meet many folks in heaven whose lives were impacted by his example.

He was actively involved in men’s groups at church for many years. While a member of Southside Baptist Church, he so loved serving in the youth department teaching Sunday school and influencing the lives of young people.  They knew they could always call “Mr. Larry” if they had a problem.  Larry and Debbie were current members of Tans Bay Baptist Church.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman and felt being outside made him clearly aware of God’s creation around him.  He absolutely loved getting up on many freezing cold mornings to duck hunt.  He also enjoyed fishing with his buddies at Santee and participated in many fishing tournaments there.  Larry would fish anywhere he could when given the chance.

He enjoyed the many vacations at the beach or in the mountains with family and friends.  As his health declined, fewer trips were made, but the memories remain forever.

This “Pop Pop” absolutely loved and adored his precious twin grandchildren. God allowed him to not only see them as newborn babies, but also watch them grow over the last seven years.  They spent many hours picking up limbs in the yard, playing racecars, and making memories.

He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie W. Quick; his daughter, Ashley Q. Powell (Eric); grandchildren, Brady Powell and Sutton Powell; two sisters, Ellen Watts and Cathy Prince (Wilton); nephews, Jason Prince (Tracey), Michael Watts, and Kevin Hatchell (Amy); and nieces, Annette Arwood (Michael), Karen Suggs, Leslie Reed (David), Shannon Miller, and Lisa Woodberry (Trey); and a number of extended family members.

He will be greatly missed by his fur babies, Rocky and Oreo.
