Leroy Matthews, Sr.

       Leroy Matthews, Sr., 69, died Thursday, September 4, 2025, at his residence after an illness.

       A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Cox Cemetery, Jeffries Creek Blvd., Pamplico, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.

      Leroy was born in Florence County, South Carolina, a son of the late Charlie and Ella Mae Matthews.  He was raised in Pamplico by his grandmother, Leatha Lambert Stone. Leroy was a farmer and a glass installer for over 30 years.

      He was a member of the Pamplico Church of God and dearly loved his family.

      He is survived by his wife, Debra Cooper Matthews, of the home; a son, Stephen Daniel Matthews of Pamplico; three brothers, Ronnie Matthews (Ella Mae), Larry Matthews (Cheryl), and Frank Matthews, all of Pamplico; two sisters, Dempie Campbell of Pamplico and Carolyn Braddock (Alan) of Florence; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Sullivan (Bill) of Effingham and Janis Hardee of Gallivants Ferry, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

       He was predeceased by his son, Leroy Matthews, Jr., and a brother, Bubba Matthews.
