FLORENCE - Lillian Gibbs Beaty, a lifelong resident of Florence passed away on January 10, 2015 at Heritage Home. Lillian was born in Florence and was the daughter of Bertha Thomas and William Herbert Gibbs. Lil, as she was known to her friends, was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, William A. Beaty, Jr.
Lil graduated from Florence public schools and attended commercial college after graduating from high school. She worked as a secretary for the Farm Security Administration for several years before she married.
In 1942, she married William A. Beaty, Jr. and they would share 70 years together. Lil and her husband were charter members of All Saints Episcopal, where she was in charge of the alter guild for many years. She was a member of the Sasanqua Garden Club and other social clubs throughout her life.
An excellent cook and seamstress, she created a wonderful home for her family. As mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was always ready to help and enjoyed spending time with family. She devoted her life to homemaking.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Beaty McQueen of La Mirada, CA; three grandchildren, William Martin McQueen III and his wife Pamela, James Beaty McQueen and his wife Paola, and Ruth McQueen Smith and her husband Matthew; and six great-grandchildren, Anna Elizabeth McQueen, Charlotte Bethea McQueen, Claire Margaret McQueen, Katelyn Scarlett McQueen, David Martin Chang Smith and Adam James Marquez.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in Florence with burial to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Waters-Powell Funeral Home is assisting the family.
The family will receive visitors at home after the burial. Memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church or any chosen charity.
